As a part of her doctoral capstone project, Ellie Traeger, an occupational therapy student at the University of Central Arkansas, developed an Arkansas-based student hand therapy study group, In Good Hands. This study group was created to build a sense of community, connection, and shared learning for students at any stage of their occupational therapy or occupational therapy assistant journey.
Inspired by her interest in hand therapy and a commitment to student-centered learning, Ellie chose to develop In Good Hands as a space for shared growth and support. The vision of this study group is to increase understanding and confidence in hand therapy concepts for all students who may be interested in a career in this field, preparing for a clinical rotation, or simply needing to refresh knowledge of hand therapy content for the NBCOT exam. Through monthly meetings, a student hand therapy conference, collaborative discussions, and resources focused on upper extremity anatomy, common orthopedic conditions, and evidence-based interventions, In Good Hands works to empower students with the knowledge and support they need to thrive!
This doctoral capstone project is a continuation of work completed by Jessica Brandon, OTD, OTR/L during her doctoral capstone, Hand In Hand, in 2023.
